Melvin Robert Sherwood Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Melvin R. “Woody” Sherwood, 81, of Hughesville, died Friday, November 2, 2018, at his home. Born January 16, 1937 in Muncy, he was a son of the late Eugene and Isabelle (Entz) Sherwood. He and his wife, the former Helen S. Ryder, celebrated 44 years of marriage on March 29, 2018. Melvin was a lifetime member of The Beacon: A United Methodist Church, Hughesville. He was president of the FFA in high school and loved farming, which he did his entire life. John Deere was his tractor of choice, and he enjoyed hunting, camping, and fishing, especially his trips to Canada. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Melvin R. "Bob" Jr. (Cindy) Sherwood, of Riverside, FL and Carl L. (April) Simpson of Hughesville; a daughter, Kathy M. (Jim) McGlocklin of South Carolina; a sister, Connie Smith of Muncy; three grandchildren, Matthew R. (Johanna) Sherwood, Bryan J. McGlocklin, and James (Cassandra Lee) Eckrote; and three great-grandchildren, Hailey Gensel, Bianca Eckrote, and Andrew Gensel. In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Eugene Sherwood who died in 1976 and a sister, Ada May. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 7, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water Street, Hughesville, with Rev. Isaac L. Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
