Glenwood "Chub" Houtz

Glenwood “Chub” Houtz, 88, Montgomery, died Sunday, October 15, 2017 at the Gatehouse Divine Providence Hospital, Williamsport. He was the husband of Phyllis J. (Bower) Houtz, who preceded him in death on July 30, 2014. Born August 30, 1929 in Clinton Twp., he is the son of the late Floyd S. and Sylvia (Jones) Houtz. Prior to his retirement in 1991, he was employed at North Star Steel. Chub served his country honorably in the U.S. Army, during the Korean conflict. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Montgomery, the American Legion Bower Decker Post #251, Montgomery, and was a lifetime member of Muncy VFW Post #3428. Chub enjoyed gardening, woodworking, spending time with family and friends, especially with the Montgomery Senior Citizens. He is survived by one son, Glenn D. (Tina) Houtz of Montgomery; and a granddaughter, Miranda Cerrone of Cherry Hill, NJ. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Gene Houtz, Kenneth Houtz, Donald Irwin, John Houtz, Ruth Coates, and Lena Deitrick. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 21 at St. John Lutheran “Brick” Church, 196 Brick Church Road, Montgomery, with Rev. A. Elizabeth Aurand officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Montgomery. Friends may call on Saturday, one hour prior to the funeral at church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Glenwood’s name to The Gatehouse, C/O Susquehanna Health Foundation, 1001 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701, or to the Montgomery American Legion, Bower Decker Post #251, 185 Broad Street, Montgomery, PA 17752.
