Carrie A. Gordner, 91, of Lairdsville, passed away Monday, February 25, 2019. She was the widow of Grover Gordner, who passed away in 2001. Together, they were blessed with 53 years of loving marriage. Born in 1927 in Unityville, she was the daughter of the late Freeman Sr., and Estella Raines Robbins. Carrie graduated from Hughesville High School in 1945. She continued her education by graduating from Wheaton Business School in Williamsport and also completed the American Institute of Banking Courses at Lycoming College. She was a former seventh degree member of the Canusarago Grange and the Lycoming County Pomona Grange. She and her husband operated their Century Farm their entire married life. They had traveled in all lower 48 states and also in Mexico and several Canadian Provinces including Nova Scotia. Carrie traveled to northern Alaska, highlighting her tour by flying around Mount McKinley in a helicopter, crossing the Arctic Circle and swimming in the mighty Yukon River. Her employment career spanned various secretarial and banking positions in the local area, having retired from Northern Central Bank. Carrie especially enjoyed hunting, gardening, volunteer work, and lending a hand at her son’s store “The Ground Chuck” in Hughesville. She loved playing music, serving as a church organist for many years. She is survived by one son, Wayne E. (Marty) Gordner of Lairdsvile; two grandsons, Joshua (Brooke Lee) Gordner of Watsontown, and Jason (Sarah) Gordner of Elizabethtown; and a great grandson, Camden Gordner. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Freeman Robbins, Jr. In keeping with Carrie’s wishes there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Marks Community Church, 6456 Route 118 Hwy, Lairdsville, PA 17742 or the UPMC Susquehanna Home Care and Hospice at https://www.susquehannahealth.org/giving-back.
